Default Do You Like Movies Set In The Early 1900's

I just got done watching on Showtime ''Cross Creek'' which was made in the 1980's but takes place back in the 1920's about a writer living in the south and really liked it. I also like these movies '' The Secrets of Roan Irish, Fried Green Tomatoes, Anne of Green Gables and even The Little Princess'' (yeah laugh) but all these were made in the 1990's i believe and yet take place in the early 20th Century as i really love that time era. As for TV ''The Waltons'' was a favorite also as it was set in the 1930's .

Any others here besides me that like those early 20th century movies and what are some movies that you like and recommend i watch.

6/3

My favorite time period is the 1930s and 40s. Watch TCM and you will see the great things done in those days. I also like period pieces from that era, but I've watched the authentic ones so much I find myself trying to find anachronistic sets and props.

6/3, those are excellent choices, Cuaron's rendition of A Little Princess is top notch. I especially enjoy Cross Creek because, although they did change it a bit, it is the true story of author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings.

Some turn of the century choices I enjoy:

Places in the Heart - One of my favorite movies, period. Takes place during the Depression. It is a wonderful ensemble piece, fine acting by all, including the kids.

The Prestige - Man vs machine, man's capacity for fooling others as well as himself. There was also The Illusionist, but I preferred The Prestige.

The Age of Innocence
- This was written in 1920, but actually the setting is NYC high society during the later 1800's, a story of nonconformity amidst rigid social rules.

The Great Race -
This was one of my favorite movies when I was a little kid. Loosely based on a real 1908 New York to Paris automobile race, it was one of the first "epic" comedies. Jack Lemon plays a great villain.
