We may be witnessing a new trend on the movie scene right now: Cartoons made before 1995 are being remade into live action flicks, such as:
Transformers (2007/from the 80's)
G.I. Joe (2009/from the 80's)
He-Man (rumored/from the 80's)
Smurfs (rumored 2010?/from the 80's)
TMNT (2007/late 80's, early 90's) not live action, but remade in CGI... close enough
Underdog (2007/from the 60's)
Alvin and the Chipmunks (2007/from the 80's)
Speed Racer (2008/from the 60's)
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009/80's)
So just to add on to this little trend, I'm going to put in my own ideas for a cartoon remake.
My remake idea: Captain Planet
If you don't remember what it is: Captain Planet
Plot: A corupt group of corporation leaders drill for oil in and look for alternative fuels, but in the process, destroys natural environments and quadruples the process of global warming. To prevent further danger to earth, Gaia calls 5 teens and gives them special rings to call on Capt. Planet, an ancient warrior and protector of earth. The teens must work together in order to restore the world to what it was.
Rating: PG to PG-13 for violence and language
Mix of: Superman Returns/Lord of the Rings/Transformers/Day After Tomorrow
I loved the cartoon Jem as a kid... clothing designer who has a computer named Synergy that can turn her into a rockstar. She even has a band and a b/f with purplish blueish hair. Oh and a rival band called the Misfits. Very 80's... I'm sure they would kill it in a remake, but I loved that cartoon.

Short-lived Late 80's futuristic Cyber-Western, With a totem summoning Native American sheriff, As the...Umm, 'Starr!'
I'm actually a little peeved, That the DVD's haven't had a Region 4 release! As from what I can remember? It's one of Filmation Associates best (..And Last!) series!

There's a Thundarr the Barbarian script being shopped around currently. Supposedly its NOT a cheesy Barbarian movie like the ones Gov. Arnold did but more of a LOR/Return of the King type epic.

Now THAT I would go see! I LOVED Thundarr as a kid. Ookla the Mok, baby!
Thundarr was kind of Conan meets the Road Warrior. Awesome.
Ah yes!! Ookla the Mok was awesome. What I always liked about this cartoon is that it did not have any silly "comic relief" characters. Everyone was all business. Gemini the evil wizard who's head spun around was bada$$.
Wow. Did you see the body on Princess Arial? Her hip to waist ratio is perfect.
wait, didn't I hear something about a live action Johnny Quest movie? OMG, I loved that show as a kid (am I the only girl that did?). that would be a cool action adventure movie
some other shows that may be cool as a movie:
-David the Gnome. though it may be a bit too eco-centric for some (granted, no where near as eco-centric as Captain Planet!)
-Gummi Bears. no clue on how they could do the bouncing bears w/o going to cutesy-annoying if it was live action, but a feature length animated/CGI movie would be wicked awesome!
-Gargoyles. WHY haven't this been done yet!?!?! this was one of the most complex, intriguing cartoons of the 90's!
- a live action Care Bears movie. ok, I'm joking. sort of. (come on, wouldn't you love to see a real life brown bear, dyed hot pink of course, just stand up on its rear legs and blast you with love and hearts from its belly? come on! )
