Did anyone mention American Beauty, starring Kevin Costner, who suffers through a midlife crisis?
My husband and I caught it this weekend (yes, we ARE that far behind the movie times!, so laugh. . .). I was under the impression it is a comedy, and it is hilarious in a lot of places, and oh-so grown-up, but I had no idea it was also a bit dark. It does end with a sweet sentiment -- the character's closing remarks.
I think 40+ some-year-olds would enjoy it. I have to call my 20-year-old daughter to ask why she says it's one of her favorites? Maybe for the dysfunctional families -- her extended family certainly is! -- and the teenage angst.
I'd recommend Mystic River(Sean Penn, Kevin Bacon, directed by Clint Eastwood) I believe it's based on a book also so maybe check out the book?
Here's a bunch of reviews for it if you want to check it out
