Obviously opinions are like good taste...everybody, uh, wait...Opinions are like humor, everybody...that doesn't work either. Okay majoun, you're just wrong. Why you gotta come behind me and challenge my movie? Did I **** you off in another thread? People are happily going along in this thread casually suggesting movies that they like, then suddenly majoun bursts in and gets in my face! I could talk bad about 'The Good Thief' and god knows I could bad-mouth Nick Nolte, but out of respect for you I will take the high road.

Or is the 'high' road the one you were on when you saw 'Running with Scissors'? You know I'm playing with you but...just stop it or I'm gonna tell!
Didn't mean to offend you, and I'm sorry if I did. To me, "RWS" was awful enough that I just had to say something. Then again, not everyone likes the same types of humor - for example I thought that "Borat" and "Idiocracy" were really hilarious and I know people who thought that "Borat" wasn't funny (I don't know anyone else who SAW "Idiocracy" so I can't really say anything about a contrary view). I really loved "The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou" and I know people who really didn't like that film. At the same time, I thought "Napoleon Dynamite" and "Little Miss Sunshine" were highly overrated and everyone else seems to love those films. It's all subjective.

And no, I wasn't on the "high" road when I saw "Running With Scissors".

I agree that Napoleon Dynamite was overrated, but I liked Little Miss Sunshine quite a bit. ND is the kind of movie that's more fun to talk about the next day than it is to actually sit through. I wanted to like The Life Aquatic more than I actually did.

Igby Goes Down, a Holden Caulfieldesque slice-of-life quirky relative movie with Kieran Culkin, which in turn reminded me of another slice-of-lifer,
You Can Count On Me with Mark Ruffalo and Laura Linney, which for me, as a sister with two brothers, is one of my favorite portrayals of brother/sister relationships.
Another slice-of-lifer is Me And You And Everyone We Know. But I will add a caveat to this one: it's a little out there. I don't know quite how to describe it.

Sideways - while I don't think it was a really funny movie, it did crack me up, but there was one unforgettable scene that still makes me roll on the floor when I think of it (when he's getting the wallet) but you've got to watch the whole movie to grasp the true humor in it.

Rocky V (sorry, Rocky Balboa) - ya just gotta see it, it's Rocky.

Little Miss Sunshine - very funny

Walk the Line - simply awesome, I still can't get over what a great Johnny Cash he was (even his singing)

Pirates of the Carribean (both)- funny movies and just great family fun

Shrek and Shrek 2 - I still laugh my butt off everytime I watch them (#3 is coming out soon) more family fun...two of the best "pixar" type movies out there.

Lord of the Rings (all three) - phenomenal movie, phenomenal storyline and "moral of the story", awesome special effects/costumes/battle scenes

Those are a few off the top of my head

Never heard of the third one, I'll have to look for it.

Many thanks, Blue Grass Fever
You're very welcome!

You'll be pleasantly surprised with O' Brother, Where Art Thou? A very underrated movie!

Thanks for this bunch. I've seen the Rings and found them entertaining. I would probably have liked them more on a wide-screen. This little 14in does detract from some of the movies I like(d).

I'll check these others out soon.

Not by us Coen Brother groupies LOL

I agree, I think otr is gonna love it!

If you wanted to like "Napoleon Dynamite" but were disappointed you might try "The Rage in Placid Lake". Another "quirky teen coming of age" movie. Over-the-top and definitely more satisfying. [Oh, and if you get the "Film Movement" version you must must must watch the included short!]

And, thinking about dysfunctional families..."Falling Angles".

I'm snowed in today...so I'm sure I'll think of more...

Oh, glad to see some of you liked/loved Brokeback Mtn. I LOVED it. We bought the DVD but I just can't bring myself to watch it again, it broke my heart. Shrek was freakin hilarious! I love it when they toss in adult humor that just whips right over the lil one's heads! And Jackass ROFL! Love those freaks! Remember the one w/the matchbox car ROFL!

For something mainstream (which I usually don't watch or recommend) try the LAKE HOUSE. Just wonderful. An amazing movie. I laughed, I cried blah blah blah

Also, someone from this forum mentioned the STATION MASTER. I will have to pass it along as I enjoyed it so much. There are ALOT of trains in the movie and it is an easy, slow movie so be warned. It was great movie about human relationships and friendship.

I'll print out all the recommendations and see how many I can see before I leave (2 weeks and counting) and when I arrive at my penultimate destination I'll have a big screen.

So many movies, so little time, but I'll catch up.

Thanks all!
