Has anyone seen this movie? It won best foreign film in 2006. It's from South Africa and tells the story of a young gangster who goes by 'Tsotsi' (which means 'thug') who slowly recovers his humanity when he carjacks a woman and finds that the car contains a 4 month old baby. His warped sense of responsiibility tells him that since the car is now 'his', so is the baby.

I'm a mom and I haven't been so moved by a film in YEARS. It was somehow life-affirming. The performance by Presley Chweneyagae is multi-faceted and powerful, even w/ limited dialogue.

I'll be doing a full review on my website soon, until then-I give it a solid 10/10.

Wonderful movie. I absolutely loved it. Poignant, moving and very clever, the acting was superb and I found it inspiring and only wish such quality of cinematography was on offer from Tinseltown.
As you say , very life-affirming and a true gem.

A completely different type of movie but if you liked "Tsotsi" you might also enjoy "Captain Abu Raed" a Jordanian Film ( in Arabic with subtitles), a wonderful masterpiece of story-telling with fantastic acting, charming, funny, tragic, sad, uplifting, poignant and with a true heart.

I saw it at the Vancouver Film Festival recently and it really was a delight.

Tsotsi was a good movie.
It reminded me a little bit of City of God.
Thanks for the headsup, Moose.

This was a great movie. I loved it, I didn't feel sorry for the thug...but at the end I had some type of sympathy for him.
I wasn't too happy with the ending though.

I really liked it..it was so sad. Sad to see that sort of thing happen, even in a movie
