Some great picks; Cagney, Redford and Stewart could have easily made my list as well. Cagney, more of a personality maybe, but what a personality, an American original like Wayne. Redford one of the most subtle actors in my opinion, and Jimmy Stewart, the ultimate nice guy, like a Tom Hanks, never quite pulled off the villain persona; saw him in a Western with I think Dean Martin when he tried, but I wasn't buying it. Loved Jimmy Stewart though in, "Anatomy of a Murder," with the deadly sexy Lee Remick, where he played if not a villain, then a character with some flesh and bones on him. Thanks Lucky Lady.
Eastwood, Nicholson and McQueen, three of my favorites as well. And I do like Helen Hunt, liked her with Nicholson in, was it, "As You Like It?" I think I'm off, but anytime I think of her I think of Holly Hunter because of the similarity of their names. Hunter's I think, one of the best actresses working today. Thanks aurora.

My current modern favs:
Jessica Lange--brilliant and beautiful in almost anything.
Meryl Streep--simply one of the best actors ever.
Sally Fields--wonderful emoting ability--one of the best.
Julia Roberts--her chops aren't super deep, but has star presence and commands the screen like few others.
Jodi Foster--plays intense, multi-layered characters to perfection.
Matt Damon--action star of now and the future. Good growth potential.
Jack Nicholson--a classic. Brilliant in anything.
Anthony Hopkins--mesmerizing in any role. Like butta...
Sean Penn--able to adapt to most any role. Excellent depth.
Russell Crowe--a pleasure to watch...extreme talent and can sink into roles, making the audience forget that it's "Russell Crowe."

Did he say, "As You Like it,"?, "As Good As It Gets," he must have meant. He's not the sharpest knife in the drawer, is he?
