I love Bill Murray but not so much this movie. The first half was ok but it went flat after that.

Sorry if I give offense but you need to lighten up a bit. This movie was not meant to even come close to reality. I can see having a complaint about realism with a movie like Platoon or FMJ but this is an Ivan Reitman comedy for Pete's sake!

Speaking of FMJ, what a lot of you are saying about Stripes reminds me of that movie. Should have ended after Pyle blew his brains out and not bothered with going to Vietnam. The only scenes worth a damn afterwards were "Me So Horny" and "no boom boom soul brother".

Sure. And if the tone of the entire movie had been even, it might have worked.

But the first 2/3 of Stripes are a screwball comedy about two struggling guys who join the Army. Shenanigans ensue. It's classic comedy.

But then the last third of the movie is this weird aside where the platoon goes to Germany and steals a top-secret military device that looks like an RV. It's like an ending to a different movie.

The first 2/3 of STRIPES are great Reitman. The last third is bad Mel Brooks.

I enjoyed it. I have it on DVD. I just wish the whole movie had been like the first 2/3's.

I love Bill Murray and I liked this movie, its not his best but its still a great one in my opinion.I think the his best movie is either scrooged or groundhog day, although I thought the man who knew too little was side splitting!

Default tough crowd

People here are pretty negative about it, but I think this is one of the funniest movies of all time. First 2/3 are better, but ending is also funny. Very quotable "Anyone touches my stuff, I'll kill you." "Where the ***** my truck?!" Hard to stop laughing.
