Great film, very thought-provoking. KW was fabulous in this (as usual), but I thought the actor playing the young Michael Berg (David Kross) was also a standout.
The recreation of 1950's Berlin was astonishing as well.
I loved it, thought it was a great story .. but to me the movie bordered someone on pornographic too, and I didn't really see the need for that but who knows maybe that is what added to it somehow
The Reader is a romantic and dramatic movie.Michael Berg falls ill and is helped by a lady who is twice his age named Hanna. Excellent script.... very good movie.. I really like this movie... I watched this movie last night.

I agree with you. The book was so good that I decided to skip the movie since I knew it could never compete with the book. (And I love Kate Winslet....hope she gets her due for her incredible talent.)
You might want to watch the movie, since it follows the book to a tee. I read the book after I saw the movie and nothing was left out.
Ah, you just answered my question. There are some sociological reasons the movie doesn't make sense. HOWEVER, if you change the Kate Winslet role into a MALE role, and the Fiennes role into a female role, then everything falls into place, especially the end scene with the child (who would then be a love child). My guess is that the original book plot had the roles like this and the author or editor swapped them to keep it from being a dark dark story and to provide a little titillation.

Nope. The movie roles are the same as the characters in the book.
