I really love those old 80's movies like The Neverending Story, Labyrinth, and the Dark Crystal. It seems those are the only movies I know that used a lot of real life puppets and not animation. Can anyone recommend any other movies like that?

I'm not impressed with all the CGi animation. I think movies like the ones above seemed a lot more magical than the ones today

You've listed two of my favorites from that period, The Neverending Story and Labyrinth. I've never seen Dark Crystal - will have to watch it. I used to include Story and Lab in a list of five favorites that I called my "fantasy trilogy" My list also included Princess Bride, which is not exactly like your described films but I bet you would enjoy it.

The other two on my list are Time Bandits (1981) and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988). These are both wonderful and I believe they fit the type you are talking about. Enjoy!

Inkheart is a new fantasy movie. I'm not sure if puppets or muppets come out in it though. It looks like it might have puppets or cgi puppets.

Legend with Tom Cruise is amazing. Right up there with Labyrinth and Dark Crystal.

Stardust has CGI but it came out to be a very magical and fun movie.

Golden compass put CGI to very good use.

Eragon is also very good despite the use of CGI.

Lord of the rings series isn't my favorite and can be very dry but you might enjoy it despite the over use of CGI (yugh).

Peter Jackson's Meet The Feebles is a very dark comedy featuring muppet like creatures.

Does Time Bandits have puppets? I thought they were all just midgets.

Does anyone know when the animated movie The Adventures of Princess Lau is coming out? I have read the book and loved it.

Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi had puppets. Hell, Yoda was originally a muppet.

Emmett Otter's Jugband Christmas is a great little show, though admittedly it's geared more for kids than adults. Still, I'm almost 40, and I still love it.

And don't forget Yoda, the greatest muppet of all time, in The Empire Strikes Back.

Time Bandits is indeed a GREAT movie, but there are no muppets in it.
