Default What's the name of this 1950's scary movie??

Anybody remember this? It was from either the 50's or possibly early 60's. I THINK the plot was something like this: $10,000 is paid to whoever can spend the whole night inside this (reputedly) haunted house. I remember a scene where they look down the stairs to the basement and see giant slug trails. Partygoers are told that whatever they ate/drank at the party would be dissolving their spines, turning them into giant slugs!

(I 'may' be accidentally combining two different scary movies, I'm not sure...I was pretty little when I saw it, and the 'slug' part really scared me!)

Anybody know the title?

Does the guy kill himself in the end?

Sounds a bit like the original House on Haunted Hill.

I remember it as an old TV show, "Thriller" or "One Step Beyond". And the guy kills himself at the end so he doesnt have to endure the painful death only to have the instigator/party organizer tell him right before he dies, that he was lieing, there was no immenent death from the poison. He took his life in vain.

I don't know about the slug part but weren't there a bunch of movies with a similar part? Had to stay in a haunted house to collect an inheritance or some other ridiculous reason.

The Tingler was some weird creature that lived in or on your spine, it was responsible for 'the shivers' up your back when you're scared. You had to scream to keep it from hurting you, or something like that. They put little shockers under movie theater seats back then, to scare the movie-goers! I don't think that was the same movie I was referring to, about turning into slug-like creatures in the basement. I think you guys are right though, I think the guy kills himself. Just wish I could think of the title~

I look online for the plot to the old "House on Haunted Hill". Yes, it was a party where people got $10,000 if they spent the night, but it had no slug tracks in the basement, nothing along those lines. So it has to be a different movie. Anybody got any other ideas? (I can look up the plots online)

Hey, that is the movie I've spent years looking for.

Is it in colour and set in some kind of old building?

There is also an oldie that I can't find for sale anywhere. The title is "The Maze" and it's about a family where the oldest sons inherit some disease that turns them into frog/slug like things.

Found the info on it:

The Maze (1953)
