We even researched it on the web. The dog is beautiful and you just want to hug him.
My wife was in a bad mood one day and told me to put a movie in for her. I put Hachi in. A little bit later she says (with tears streaming down her cheeks) "Why didnt you tell me this would make me cry?" I replied "Because then you wouldnt have watched it"

Into the Wild. The ending had me struggling for air. Most memorable ending I can remember. *tear*

Little Heroes - This is a movie I watched during my childhood. The first movie that ever made me cry.

Into the Wild was one of those movies that really did stay with me and give me a sort of epiphany.

I have not had the guts to watch either Marley and Me or Hachi.

I did read the true story of Hachi.

I pretty much never cry at movies, but not because I'm particularly macho. (I'm not) I'm just always a bit detached from them and realize they're unreal.

However when they are real, like some documentaries, those get me close to crying or just do make me cry. I remember one on PBS about the Rwandan genocide that hit me pretty hard, I may have cried.

Also sometimes music can make me cry so if a movie is sad and I find the song moving I might come close to crying. "Snoopy Come Home" was maybe close when I was a boy.

In the listed seven I saw five and I'm not sure any of them were even close, but maybe Dead Poet's Society was. That might seem odd as I think it has a more mixed critical reception than the other four I saw, but I guess in fiction slightly sappy is what comes closest for me. (I didn't cry at it either though)

As I recall the films traditionally seen as "guy cry" are in genres like

"Boy and his Dog" (My Dog Skip, Snoopy Come Home, Old Yeller, etc)
"Father and Son" (Field of Dreams, Big Fish, Searching for Bobby Fischer, Lion King, Finding Nemo, etc)
"Dying or ill athlete" (Brian's Song, Lou Gehrig type stories)
"Self-sacrifice in war" (Schindler's List, Braveheart maybe?)

Not sure I have that right or if it's been said already.

For me it has been:

Toy Story 3: The ending when Andy finally gives up his toys and the toys have to come to terms and say goodbye forever and played one last time with Andy. Maybe it's because I grew up with this movie since I was 11 so it was just heartbreaking after all these years it really was time to say goodbye.

Pan's Labrynith: When Ofelia "dies" and Mercedes sings her the lullaby as she dies in her arms.

Marley and Me: Okay, I never wanted to watch this movie but it was being played on flight on an 8 hour flight. So I didn't really cry, I prevented it, but the scene when they are putting Marley to sleep had me start crying, so I took my headphones off an stop watching.

Mystic River: When Sean Penn finds out that the body that was found was his daughter's. Not so much the scene, but more so Sean Penn's acting. You almost feel like he does.

I know there are a few more, I just can't think of any.

I think "Father and Daughter" could work too.

For me it's either of the three:

1. A parent finding out their child is dead (but only if it is done well).
2. A dog dying (ie. Marley and Me)
3. People saying goodbye. Not goodbye like "I will see you in a few years" like goodbye we will probably never see each other again (ie Toy Story 3)
