Cause if you watch it today...it feels it was made, 'today'....
It doesn't feel 'dated' like other horror films...everything in that movie, is still relevant today...same emotions, reactions, fear of graveyards ect ect....
And the background musical scores are key...unlike many of todays cheezy teeny horror flicks that are no more than a MTV video...
This movie starts off in the shadows of a graveyard, accompanied by eerie ghostly whispers and sounds...(no loud rock music or any of that pazzaz)...
It felt like it was straight out of someones nightmare....
At least a westerners nightmare firmiluar with standard American culture...
(Not sure what a African has nightmares about, or someone from Uzbeckistan Russia)
I learned today, that the daughter was played by twins...and I think the son too...
And the grey cat...there was like 5 of them they used in the movie....
If they ever try to re-make this movie...(and someday they will)...there's not much improovement they can do to it...
And yes, I enjoyed Pet semetary II as well...
My favorite was "Misery." I just thought it was really well-made and Kathy Bates, as usual, was superb. There was no overly gratuituous violence (not that Stephen King isn't mostly gratuitous violence) which I why I think it was effective. My least favorite was "The Shining." The reason for this was that, in the book, Jack Nicholson's character, seemed like he'd had a troubled past but was at least sane from the start. It was the Overlook Hotel that changed all that. In the movie, Jack Nicholson was a nut-case starting with the drive up to the hotel, so to me, it lessened the supernatural effect the hotel had on him.
As a MAJOR Stephen King fan (have all his books and then some)
90% of his movies suck. They come across amazing in story but putting them on screen it loses alot of what makes them special.
You are absolutely right!
Quote:
His best would have to be Misery.
AND (though this one was not a book but written for the screen) Storm of the Century. That miniseries was GREAT!!!!!!.
Worst Movie: Silver Bullet Best Movie: Christine
Worst Book: not sure... Best Book: The Stand
