How in the world does IMDB rate the movies?
We are currently watching The Family That Preys and I checked IMDB and it got seriously LOW rating.
I'm a HUGE Tyler Perry fan. We own all his movies and love all his movies.
Checked rating of his other movies and they were alllllll low..????
Who the hell rates these?
But meanwhile they give crap movies high ratings like Knocked Up, Super BAd and Pineapple Express. Idiotic no talent movies that are a waste of braincells get higher ratings w/movies that have a meaning, about relationships, etc.

Viewers log in and rate it 1-10. But they have some weird way of calibrating them to get a final number, which I can't figure out.

I agree that the movies you have at the bottom there are a waste of brain cells, but I also agree with IMDB on the Tyler Perry movies. My wife loves them, as do most women I know, but im a guy and I have never seen anything entertaining in those films. I love the idea of good morals, etc...but the movies are borring. Maybe it's just a guy thing.

Nope.. it's not a guy thing. My husband loves his movies too. Daddy's Little Girls hit him pretty hard (minus the drug thing LOL) because of his 2 children.
He laughs as hard as I do on the funny scenes and he relates to the movies and a human level.

They say that their formula for their weighted average is a secret. It is designed, among other things, to prevent "ballot box stuffing." And as you mention anybody who creates an account can vote. So I don't take the ratings seriously--it is more of a popularity contest than an assessment by film critics asd historians. Now I'm not saying everyone who votes is a know-nothing teenager, and sometimes the professional critics get it wrong. But The Shawshank Redemption is #1, and while I like the movie very much, and own it on DVD, it is clearly not the greatest film in the history of cinema. And Fight Club is ranked higher than 2001: a Space Odyssey and Citizen Kane!
