Michael Mann is PRODUCING, DIRECTING & WRITING this movie. Two movies he Wrote, Produced & Directed were HEAT & THIEF. I only hope he didn't sacrifice artistic freedom & it comes out R rated. PG 13 is too constricting for a movie like those mentioned above.

I tend to enjoy Michael Mann movies.
I tend to enjoy Johnny Depp movies.
Might be a winning combination.

Should be great. I'll definitely be in the theater for it either way.
Nice to see Depp playing a regular person again. I miss the days of Blow and Donnie Brasco. I'm sick of seeing him in crazy make-up jobs.

I agree. He plays a great character part, but it sure will be nice to see him ACTING again.

It would be interesting watching the charismatic Depp portray the public enemy #1.

Not being R rated would be detrimental to a picture about bandits? They've been making pictures about bandits since The Great Train Robbery in 1903 and many have been very good despite not being R rated.

How's about White Heat? Better if it had been R rated? C,mon.

Was it Michael Mann that did Miami Vice? The movie was horrible.
Love Johnny Depp.

Never saw it, I like Colin Ferrell but felt he was miscast. Mann did the original Miami Vice tv show too, it was pretty good. Mann also had a hand in these movies, which I liked: Last of the Mohicans, Collateral, The Insider, Ali, Heat, The Aviator. He takes chances and they don't always work out, but one thing I've noticed is his eye for filming water, which I too enjoy, and his ear for well-chosen soundtracks.
