I watched this movie on Netflix last night. It was fascinating listening to a psychiatrist being so direct describing on how his goal is to try to quickly help patients by providing tools that can be used in bits and pieces.
The movie was directed by Jonah Hill, and his goal was to try to help those with anxiety and other issues see that there are some things you can do to help yourself. Dr. Stutz treats Jonah for his anxiety.
I love how the doctor says we can’t avoid 1. Pain, 2. Uncertainty and 3. Work. Don’t run away from it, embrace it and navigate it, by focusing on your pyramid of 1. Your body (through diet, exercise and nutrition), 2. Your relationships with others and 3. Your relationship with yourself.
There’s a lot of other stuff, but all in all I thought it was a very good movie, not only due to it’s discussion on treating mental health, but also the relationship you see between Jonah and Dr. Stutz. It’s interesting how in some parts of the movie, the patient becomes the doctor as Dr. Stutz talks about his life and childhood. I recommend!
