Rain Man.
Dustin Hoffman might have been great in the role but the movie wasn't 'best picture' material.

I think the worst winner hands down in Oscar's history is A Clockwork Orange. A film directed by Stanley Kubrick in 1971. I remember there were protests and resignations in the Academy from that decision!

Gosh I loved it. In fact the day after I saw it, I told everyone at work it would win Best Picture. And it did.
I thought Out Of Africa was the worst win ever.

Worst:
American Beauty
Annie Hall
Shakespeare in Love
I saw Shakespeare In Love after it won Best Picture and thought the people who voted for it all must have been doped up or drugged when they voted or the Oscar Accounting Firm can't count right...and I hadn't even seen Saving Private Ryan at the time so it's not like I was miffed that my favorite didn't win.
I didn't have a favorite nominate picture when American Beauty won, either. I just think that movie stunk big time. But, Annie Hall is one of the most boring movies ever. I saw all of the movies nominated that year: The Goodbye Girl, Julia, Star Wars and The Turning Point, and they were ALL better than Annie Hall.

WHAT??? What are you guys smoking???
Rocky??? Titanic??? Rain Man???
WHAT THE HELL????
I think that the WORST of the WORST Best Picture Academy Awards winners is Lord of the Rings: Return of the King!! This movie is SO boring...
I also think that Chicago, The Departed and Crash are close...
Crash is a good movie but not more... Brokeback Mountain should have won that year!
