Quoted from FlashM
"Do you mean you like Saving Private Ryan?
What a naive movie it was. In most cases this moneymaker called Steven Spielberg makes only money but not great movies. Saving Private Ryan really disappointed me though I admit the intro debarkation scene was awesome.
Full Metal Jacket is way better."

I thought I was the only one who felt this way about Saving Private Ryan. Over-hyped, over-dramatic, over-emotional, over-drawn out Spielberg crap. When I first saw it, I didn't know he was the director and I said to my husband "Did Steven Spielberg direct this?" I agree that the opening battle scene was terrific and paralyzing. After that-meh.

For a good war film, I recommend something along the likes of Come and See or Stalingrad. I also really enjoyed Full Metal Jacket (love anything by Stanley Kubrick!)

Now the punches will really start flying in, but I'm going to say it anyway-I was also not a huge fan of Schindlers List.

I am one of the rare ones who did like Annie Hall. I actually enjoy Woody Allen's work. My favorite is 'Mighty Aphrodite'.

I happy enough cause I never saw that flick. Hope never will as it's another Spielberg's bad movie.

That might be part of my problem-I'm probably very biased. I'm simply not a Spielberg fan. Perhaps if I had seen it not knowing he directed it I may have had a different opinion. Then again, it may have been the same case as in SPR where I instantly KNEW he directed it!

I believe there's nothing bad to be biased. You see some CDers are biased towards Woody Allen so we are biased towards Spielberg in response Lol

I don't know, I've found a lot of people who don't like it, including 3 of the 4 other people I saw it with who had not seen it before. I think it is a love it or hate it thing, probably because the film is so very distinct stylistically. Over the years when I have mentioned this to people, they usually say "OMG! How can you think that?!?!" or "Yes, totally agree!", the numbers being pretty well split down the middle, and most people being pretty passionate about their response. For me, it didn't help that I saw the film with someone who is absolutely obsessed with it. It can be very hard for anything to live up to an obsessed fan's hype. Also, I've never been particulately impressed with Omar Sharif. For me, it might have been a lot better with a stronger lead. That was a big part of why I didn't like it.

Maybe because I was young when I saw it,but I absolutely hated "Terms of Endearment"--DEPRESSING. I don't like sad ,depressing movies as a whole. I don't know why this movie won an award. I know it was well acted, but the storyline,as I remember it, wasn't anything spectacular.

You should give that flick another view, if nothing else for the interaction between Jack Nicholson and Shirley MacLaine.......it is really funny and brilliant.

I also loved Terms Of Endearment because it was one of the "realest" - for lack of a better term - movies I've seen in correlation with family life. So many uncomfortable, delightful, irritating, soothing, uplifting, heartbraking moments that we've all experienced in everyday life.

Last, but not least.....Debra Wingers unbelievable ability to exude sexiness even when playing un-sexy characters like the one in that film. One of the most underrated and beautiful actresses ever.....solely because she never looked like some cupie doll centerfold.

Dustin Hoffman usually gets on my nerves - but I give him great credit for "Little Big Man" and "Tootsie"!
