I had to look it up and I still am not sure which character you are looking for but I guess it is on the list here...

East of Eden (1955)

Great movie - I think it is easily Dean's best.

I always wondered who would have played Abra....having finished reading the book recently. I'm not familar with Julie Harris, who played her in the 1955 film (thank you for the link). Interesting that Harris later played Mrs. Greenwood in an old depiction of The Bell Jar.

Thanks for making me remember the Bell Jar.

Anyone who isn't familiar with Julie Harris is missing out on some amazing performances, including "The Haunting" (1963), "The Member of the Wedding", "Requiem for a Heavyweight", and "The Christmas Tree", just to name a few. i would love to see the TV presentation of "The Belle of Amhearst", with Miss Harris in one of her most famous roles~Emily Dickinson. She's a remarkable actress. And, yes, she is wonderful in "East of Eden", during which she became friends with James Dean.
