"Out of Africa" The scenery is so beautiful and when it is coupled with the wonderful music it is almost too stunning to watch.
"Ryan's Daughter" This is one of my favorites. The scenes of the stormy sea are beautiful and somewhat unsettling to watch. The way the director tied the mood of the sea and the land in with what was going on in the movie is priceless.
"Zulu" I love this movie. The landscape is a character unto itself. Tie that in with the train-like sounds of the Zulu warriors on the march and I can't find anything as haunting as that. It also helps that Richard Burton was the narrator. I could look at wallpaper and be in a trance if Burton was talking about it. heeheehee
"Flight of the Phoenix" (The original one) Even though 95% of the film takes place in the desert it is still amazing to watch. The sands have a will of their own and the wind moving over the dunes is hypnotizing with the shapes and forms that are made from the collision of the two.
"Hawaii" WOW! What a scenic paradise.
"Dr. Zhivago" All of it. Another David Lean jewel.
Lawrence of Arabia. Another David Lean and Freddie masterpiece.
Back about 1970 there was a short subject film about Hawaii that was worthy of IMAX. It had a low flying plane going over the islands. There was one scene in particular where it was going over some land at a fairly low level, banked a little and suddenly flew over a cliff. I'm not afraid of heights, but I could feel my bottom dropping out. Since I was an usher at the time, I made sure I was in a good position to watch whenever that scene came up.
That of course brings up the IMAX Blue Planet and other IMAX eye candy.
What was that Borgnine/Marvin movie - King of the Hobos?
The Straight Story: I love the panoramic shots of middle America.
The Searchers: two words--"Monument Valley."
The thing that I really like about the above movies is that they are shot almost entirely out-of-doors, and the land is an integral part of the story.
Gotta agree with Ketabcha on Dr. Zhivago. Also, loved Brokeback Mountain,Dances With Wolves, and Lawrence of Arabia.
