"The 7th Dawn"

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057813/?ref_=nv_sr_1

We-ll......., it's a beautiful movie of sets, wonderful supporting actors, backgrounds, and action. One can fall in love with the leads, feel something of the despair here and there, suspect evil in the wrong people.

BUT....., I get the feel that at times, they didn't know what they were doing. I took the title to mean something about a new country and only toward the last 3rd of the movie does the title become obvious. It seems like the movie was going one way the first half and suddenly, they realized which story they were telling and they got onto that story in the second half. With all the killing going on, it is quite easy to miss the significance of certain killings until it is blatantly pointed out to the audience through a "just convenient" plot device.

Maybe because it was that I had to watch the flick in three sittings over three days; I've just been that busy. Records showed I bought the flick back in July but I don't recall why. I may have been increasing my Susannah York or Capucine inventory, the system recommended it to me because I was searching for flicks with an Eric Ambler feel to them, or maybe, I wanted to increase my William Holden (possible) or Tetsuro Tanba (not likely but this does make the 3rd (YOLT, Five Man Army) flick of his works I have) stock.

It is a good PG movie in that there is nudity, no sex. I believe I must have come across it once, decades ago, perhaps as an afternoon flick because one line, concerning the bicycle curfew, sounded very familiar but then the rest of the movie was taken as unseen.

Sommersby (1993)

Richard Gere plays a Confederate veteran who unexpectedly wanders home after the War.. Town receives him with open arms, unaware of his recent mysterious circumstances. Gets sappy in the last scenes, but I basically liked it. Good historical recreation, I thought.. & has Silence of the Lambs-era Jodie Foster.. Currently on Netflix.

Two Seconds (1932)

Edward G. Robinson is a convicted murderer about to be electrocuted for killing his gold-digging wife. The warden explains to the witnesses that during the two seconds it takes before he dies, a man's entire life flashes through his mind.

How Eddie's amazing performance was ignored by the Academy that year is criminal unto itself!
