It's a bittersweet film. There are a few good laughs and some almost teary moments.
Absolutely fantastic film. No false note from beginning to end.

Hitchcock was one sick twist. I mean, Highsmith was even sicker, but Hitchcock was no piker in the sick twist department.

Over the weekend I caught most of the following on TV

Wit
starring Emma Thompson as a professor dying of ovarian cancer. RT gave it good reviews which made me wonder if I'm so jaded/spoiled that I can't enjoy an understated movie. Seemed well done but I thought the focus or emphasis of the movie was a little blurry. And of course depressing but important topic.
It was great to see someone from Firefly I hadn't seen since. The former soldier kid who was smuggling body parts and died at the end of episode played a young research Dr. I knew him from somewhere and it almost didn't come to me.

Mars Attacks
Star studded (lots and lots! and an early early Jack Black) tongue in cheek take on sci fi movies. I never get even some of the references and send ups in these. Was fun to watch Jack Nicholsen play two parts. Reminded me a little of Dr. Strangelove but not nearly as good.

The Lone Ranger
with Depp and...? I thought the trailers looked like a total disaster. It was better than that but I'm glad I caught it on cable. It was fun to see Alice from Luther. Got the accent right and didn't use her fish lips.

Twas Interstellar, in IMAX. My 2nd time seeing it, and it won't be my last time. Will probably see it next payday. I am in love with that movie.

Last night we watched the supernatural thriller, "Mercy." This is based on a short story written by Stephen King called "Gramma." The King movies are always a risk for me and this one was a bit more elaborate than the story, for obvious reasons, but it didn't fail to hold my interest.

It's the story of a mother and two preteen boys who go to live with her mother while the old woman is dying. And Grandma is undergoing some pretty horrifying changes as she faces the results of her life choices. Un a sense it's two horrors - the real-life horror of how things can go wrong in a way no scary movie can duplicate. And the spiritual horror of what awaits us after we die, what residue may be left behind and what will be the consequences for ourselves and others.

It's set in West Virginia and the scenery was beautiful and haunting. The acting was quite good for a movie of this genre. Name escapes me at the moment but one of the main roles is played by the young man who later went on to play the son of the policeman in "The Walking Dead."
