St. Vincent, movies on demand, 5.00 dollars. 77% and 80% on the tomato meter respectively (critcs, audience).

I liked it. Its not a new fresh concept, its a little formulaic happy ending sort of thing but it was well done. The big scene at the end was a little unrealistic given the age of the boy. I loved seeing Bill Murray bring it as an actor and not fall back on any of his comedic ticks. He wasnt Bill Murray playing a part. But.....it was still Bill Murray and I love Bill Murray. IDK, I sort of identified with his character too so that probably helped

Maggie (McCarthy), a single mother, moves into a new home in Brooklyn with her 12-year old son, Oliver (Lieberher). Forced to work long hours, she has no choice but to leave Oliver in the care of their new neighbor, Vincent (Murray), a retired curmudgeon with a penchant for alcohol and gambling. An odd friendship soon blossoms between the improbable pair. Together with a pregnant stripper named Daka (Watts), Vincent brings Oliver along on all the stops that make up his daily routine - the race track, a strip club, and the local dive bar. Vincent helps Oliver grow to become a man, while Oliver begins to see in Vincent something that no one else is able to: a misunderstood man with a good heart. (C) Weinstein

Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story (1987)

It's on youtube.

"Upon its release, the film was a minor art hit, and was shown at several film festivals. However, shortly thereafter, Richard Carpenter viewed the film and became irate with the film's portrayal of his family..."

Whiplash

Wow. Intense! After the final scene, I felt like crying. Not because of any emotional impact of the movie, but because it was just so intense, I needed the release.
