Rashomon is very good.

Jonestown: The Life and Death of Peoples Temple. A good documentary. The ending was even more shocking than I thought it would be.

Jerome Bixbey's The Man from Earth - a 2007 scifi film - no big bang sfx, no huge cast of thousands, just an ensemble cast and a thought provoking concept well executed.

"An impromptu goodbye party for Professor John Oldman becomes a mysterious interrogation after the retiring prefessor reveals he is 14,000 years old."
