Saw "The Witch" yesterday--
Very good film--normally don't like "horror" films but this was skillful evoking of scene and psychological factors Puritan-era characters experienced...good acting by children...VERY careful attention to set decoration and costuming--shot with lot of natural light in black/white/gray color tones...skillful...
The mother is played by GoT actress who was pushed off castle walls last season by Baylish--the aunt...her face alone makes her excellent choice but she is good actress...
Saw "45 Years" Wednesday---
Slow--my husband was really put off by the internalization of so much that he thought should have been expressed---
Rampling is excellent (she always is) but think the script let her down...
Courtney is also top notch--his character almost seems stroke-affected initially--but you don't read as many positive reports of his acting...
The final scene with song "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" still leaves the audience with unanswered questions--and even more of them to some extent...
Thought it was very much a director's film--which I think he did write--
'El Dorado' (1966) - John Wayne, Robert Mitchum, James Caan. A good John Wayne movie.
