Star Trek (2009)
My favorite movie.

Star Trek: Into Darkness
AlternaKhaaaaan!

(Streaming through my Kindle, and it's out of juice now so I can't go straight into a viewing of Star Trek: Beyond.)

Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Lots of funny places, lots of heart. Big emphasis on "family" -- the family you're born into and the family you make. Definitely character driven. Each character has a mini-story, and the overall plot is not terribly strong in this one. Great soundtrack, of course.

I didn't care for this one as much as the first one, but a lot of that could have been due to the surprise factor of the first one. I knew nothing about it, didn't know what to expect, and the brilliance of it caught me off guard and delighted me. With #2, I knew what to expect -- more or less -- so there wasn't that element of discovery.

Not related to your movie choice...but I just recieved the best of Steve Martin SNL on VHS. Had to share with you since you are a VHS buff. My daughter picked it up thrifting for 98 cents.
