^^ Agree about Illusionist. Was very blah and boring. Though I do love Ed.
I just watched Bend it like Beckham last night. I had already seen this movie a few years ago when it first came out and didnt really think anything of it. I just wanted to see what the fuss was about. But watching it again, I think I just didnt appreciate it a few years ago. I thought it was very funny, and while it does deal with some touchy subjects, it does it well.

Rented the Simpsons Movie and love it! I screened it first so I would know if it would be ok for my kids and then let them watch it. They loved it too. I think it will be one of those few movies that I rent and then go out and buy.

I have blockbuster total access, which is fantastic by the way, so I'm checking out rentals all the time. I mostly use it to "catch up," on flicks I never got around to seeing for whatever reason. I think it's perfect for that.
Here's a list of my most recent rentals,
The Namesake
The Fountain
Once were Warriors
The Departed
Donnie Brasco
Pi
American Pyscho
Painted Veil
I had already seen the Departed in the theaters wanted to check it out again, and I enjoyed it very much again.
I also really, really liked Once Were Warriors. That is a great flick. Definitely pick it up if you have not seen it.
Donnie Brasco was very good. Close to excellent.
The Namesake, had some really good performances. Worth checking out but nothing out of this world.
The Fountain is a weird movie. Looks great but drags a lot at times. Has its artistic merits, but I actually found it kinda boring. I felt it could have been a better film.
Pi, very indie, very low-fi. Saw it based on a recommendation from a friend. Cool concept. Would love to have seen it done on a bigger budget. Ok movie.
American Pyscho was pretty good. Good if your into dark humor. Christian Bale was great in it.
Painted Veil. Edward Norton is the highlight in this. His performance elevates an otherwise boring movie. Strong performance from Naomi Watts as well.

Let me recommend a movie that hasn't been mentioned. I think it was just put on DVD last year. "Silent Partner" with Elliott Gould and Christopher Plummer.
When it came out in the early seventies nobody saw it yet Siskel and Ebert listed it as one of the year's five best. It was a Canadian flick and released with little fan fare. Watch for John Candy in a bit part.

For me "The Notebook" is such a good movie. Actually it was my favorite movie and the only movie that makes me cry until the end of the story.

I rented a movie about an overzealous security guard who was kidnapping and murdering thieves of the store, storing their bodies in a storage room of the Mall. When his assistant investigated he realized that all the people caught stealing never showed up for their hearings.

I watched "Canadian Bacon" again and what a true comic classic it is too !? I had forgotten how funny and sometimes scary ( in the political satire it offers) it was. I love this movie and really miss John Candy.

Snowed in today, so thought I would bring this thread up again in case anyone has any new suggestions. I just watched "EASTERN PROMISES" and it was quite good. Very brutual/violent in parts (its about the Russian mafia in London) but Vinn ? from Lord of the Rings was the star and he did a great job- hes up for an oscar for this role.
