I absolutely loved The Pursuit of Happyness! It's based on the true story of Chris Gardner, who ultimately became a multimillionaire. As a husband and father of a young son, it's about his struggles once his wife (the primary source of income) walks out on them. They (he and his son) face evictions and eventually homelessness as he pursues his dream of success. I just wanted to hug my kids after I watched it. No wonder Will Smith was nominated for an Oscar! Great movie!

Yay, happy too see two of my favorite feel-good family-friendly films ( Second Hand Lions and World's Fastest Indian) mentioned.

This past weekend for us:

Flushed Away: better than I expected (I hate bathroom humor). Strong female character. Ho-hum graphics (or are we just becoming jaded?), excellent soundtrack.

Rabbit Proof Fence: Wow. Just wow. Subtle. Touching. Amazing acting by an mostly unknown "outsider" cast.

Hard Candy: Riveting. Edge of your seat kinda flick. Talked about it for a good hour or so after the final credits.

Hard Candy is interesting to discuss because everyone seems to have a different take on it.
Loved Pursuit of Happyness.

I saw Rabbit Proof Fence in the theater and really enjoyed it, especially the section at the end about the true story. Well, maybe "enjoy" is not the proper term, but I really appreciated the well-acted historical event.

Have Flushed in my queue but it keeps getting bumped down by my kid who is renting stuff like Citizen Kane.

Last night I watched Sherrybaby. This is another one of those well-acted dramas which are guaranteed to kill a good mood.
Sherry has served her time in prison (drugs, theft) and returns home to re-establish her relationship with family in general and her own daughter in particular. She is not a strong person and the sad part is watching her figure this out. There is a lot of raw emotion here. Good acting all around.
But I think I need something cheerier soon; I am in the mood for Flushed, not Citizen Kane.

I still haven't watched the rest of Seven Samurai. There might be a reason that I'm a film idiot, I just don't make the time to watch them. Lately, though, I haven't watched much of anything. Just don't have much attention span left these days.

Lightbulb Funny with a Consence!

I don't know who all has seen it, but Thank you for Smoking was awesome. Aaron Eckhart is an amazing salesman if you would. Convincing is one word that comes to mind. He was made for that part!
The best thing about the movie was the fact that it wasn't really all that serious. It was one of the best movies i have seen.
They put a different spin on the Tobacco industry and how it effects people. The side that they show isn't necessarily bad but not all that good either.
The ensemble cast that they put together for this movie is fantastic. They play their parts so well. I think my favorite character was... well it's a toss up, they didn't have big parts but Rob Lowe and Adam Brody. They make you think L.A.
Recommend to anyone who likes a good "Political Comedy".

Don't think of it some much as that but as educational!!!

I guess I'm behind the times. I just recently rented Little Miss Sunshine. I thought it was hilarious at times, but good overall. Also rented The Good Shepard. I wasn't too impressed with it, but thought I'd give it a try due to the cast and Deniro directing it. Very long, hard to follow, and I feel it didn't live up to the hype that I'd heard about it.

I was pleasantly surprised by "Casino Royale"....best Bond movie in a long time. I had pretty much dismissed the series and in fact still haven't sat thru the entirety of the one w/ Hally Berry (don't even know the name off hand). Timothy Dalton made for a horrible Bond and then more recently the Pierce Bronsan flicks, while I didn't mind Bronsan's credibility as Bond, just were often lame or came off more as a Charles Bronsan-style movie than a James Bond classic.
"Casino Royale" moves a snail's pace the last 30 minutes or so and all of the good action sequences are bottled up in the first half of the movie, but all the same, alot of the "Bond aura" is re-invented in this script (as actually it was written long ago). Craig does an admirable job in the role of Bond. This is the best in the series in a very long time.

I agree about Casino Royale.
And I had been dead set against Daniel Craig.
He does have a bit of a "Blue Steel" thing going on with this mouth, but he was excellent, as was the movie. Yes, the film dragged towards the end, but it still kept my interest.

I rented Slacker over the weekend.
Austin, young people, lots of hanging out and talking. Loved the Smurf discussion.
It's very much a drifting, stream-of-consciousness, plotless film and this got a little old towards the end, but I liked the different characters and their conversations.

Next up:
The Science of Sleep

I'm not a big movie watcher, but recently we rented, and found to be "okay," but not great:

The Secret and Borat

One we really like to re-watch is "He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not," with Audrey Tautou (French film). My daughter frequently refers to it in reference to various actions people make. This one I do recommend.
