I remember seeing electric cars all the time in CA. I really never gave them much thought, so I didn't realize that I don't see them anymore. This film explains where they went, what happened to them and why. It is truly an eye-opener. And we wonder why we all have to pay through the nose for gasoline. You gotta see this film!!!
P.S. We rented it at Blockbuster.

I haven't been able to find this, don't have a local BlockBuster but.........
I'm skeptical. Rumors have persisted for years that there existed a 100mpg carburetor that the gas companies paid the inventor big $$$$$$$$ to lose. Electric cars may have their place in heavily urban environments but we have yet to develop any type of electricity storage system that comes remotely close to the energy density of gasoline or diesel fuel

1776 A musical about the writing of the Declaration of Independence. The acting is a bit overdone, and some of the songs are silly ("He Plays The Violin"), but it's a great history lesson. It also shows the issues at hand, especially songs like "Mama, Look Sharp", "We Are Cool Men", and "Bibles, Rum, and Slaves."
The Queen Diana's death through the eyes of tradition (Elizabeth II) and modernity (Tony Blair). Even if you're not an Anglophile, it's a good look at how hard change can be.

I saw Children of Men in the theater and liked it so much I bought it when it came out on dvd.
Rented Little Children and really enjoyed it.
It is about love, parenting (and infidelity) in the confines of suburbia.
Some of the best acting I've seen in awhile.

I borrowed "Idiocracy" from the library. It's a dark comedy about a society ravaged by massive consumerism and anti-intellectualism. It was hilarious!

I didn't rent it, but I believe it's out on DVD.
Last night a whole gang of friends and I went to see a special one-night release of The Host, an almost campy horror film that came out last year which was Korea's top grossing film of all time. What a blast. It got rave reviews last year when it was released.
If you're into the horror film genre, it's definitely a must see. I don't like horror films at all but this had me laughing and amazed. The family who fights the monster is as dysfunctional as any out there. I'd put them in the category with the Simpsons and the Osborns. The monster runs rampant in broad daylight. No mystery about its appearance.
Pretty great fun.

The last 6 movies that I rented (from Hollywood) were The Godfather (gotta watch it every couple of years), Zelig (Woody Allen, pretty unusual and funny/quirky), Woodstock: 3 days of peace and music (speaks for itself), Little Miss Sunshine (didn't get to watch it, turned it back in, but will get again, I've heard its excellent), Fleetwood Mac: The making of Rumours (I like the first two incarnations of Fleetwood Mac the best but this was pretty good nonetheless), and Where the Buffalo Roam (Bill Murray plays Hunter S. Thompson, one of my favorite all time movies ever but this one didn't have the original soundtrack so I jettisoned and turned it back in. Bummer).

I think Ontheroad recommended Aimee and Jaguar (correct me if I am wrong).
I watched the dvd last night and cannot get this film (based on a true tale) out of my mind.
The combination of the brilliant historical recreation, the war-time mood of Berlin, and the passionate love story, so well-portrayed by the two actresses, continues to haunt me today.
The special features actually *are* special, too--it was fascinating to hear what the real Aimee had to say.
