If actors spout off in public about causes unrelated to their work, with which you disagree, does it turn you off enough so that you refuse to see their movies? If yes, do you just refuse to pay for them/give monetary support? In other words, you might not go to the movies to see their pictures but you might watch them if they are free on TV?
I ask because I always hear talk about this or that actor putting fannies in the seats and I wonder if the reverse is true, that is, you deliberately avoid a certain actor's movies that has nothing to do with their acting ability. You just don't like them as people.
Typically I will still watch but I hit the wall with Mel Gibson and haven't seen anything of his - new, old, free, for pay - for years now. My husband is the same way with Jane Fonda. Usually, though, we don't "shun" stars even if they have what we consider to be hateful opinions or actions. As I get older, that might be changing LOL
I've sort of become the same way with Mel Gibson, he's definitely become a bit of a pill--but it might *partly* just be that in recent years, his work simply has not interested me.
I can usually separate the work from the personality. I always admired Charlton Heston.
I know a lot of people got all hot and bothered about Alec Baldwin during the Dubya years, but that guy just cracks me up.
If they are a good actor or actress, I dont see them. I see the character they play and what they believe in or do offscreen has no bearing on whether or not I watch a movie.
Sure. I would watch Bruce Willis read the phonebook even though his political views and latest photo spread really made me shake my head.
Honestly, some of my closest friends hold very different opinions than mine - makes for some great discussions.
For those there are movies with Bruce Willis, TV with Chuck Norris, and who knows maybe Paris Hilton or Britney Spears may even play the lead in a movie. Keep your fingers crossed!
I see where Rosie O'Donnald's last TV attempt went into the dumper. I hear she is going to try TV again. I liked her better when she was not political. I avoid The View like the plague. It all depends on the movie and what they are appearing in. If they can separate their politics from the venue I can watch it.
I only stop watching if there is an idiot like John Wayne or Charlton Heston.
