The movie is in talking stage. Gulliermo del Toro is going to direct it. He is currently working on the new Frankenstein remake.

Johnny would make a PERFECT Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde!!! Hope he gets consideration.

His talent is beyond words.

It's too bad Heath Ledger isn't here for this one.

I'm personally not a huge Depp fan, but it's a role I could see for him. I could see Ed Norton doing it.

He already did it in a way, in his breakthrough movie Primal Fear. (Maybe that is what you were thinking of?)

I wouldn't have a problem with Johnny playing the lead in every movie!

I'd like to see Gary Oldman take a shot at it.
He was good in Dracula.

Check out BBC's Jekyll. It isn't a version of the classic story so much as a modern "inspired by," but it's still loads of fun.

I could see Depp as Dr. Jekyll. Mr. Hyde... not so much. Hyde is supposed to be physically imposing, and Depp just isn't. He can be creepy (his Willy Wonka still gives me the heebie-jeebies), but he's just not physically threatening at all. I think my grandmother could probably beat him up.

Maybe del Toro could cast Depp as Jekyll and someone like Ron Perlman as Mr. Hyde.

Aren't Jekyll & Hyde the same guy?

Depends on the adaptation. Some make him undergo a physical change. Some make it all psychological.

Depp can be creepy. I just don't see him as scary, as Hyde is in the story.

Great idea. Not many really have the acting chops but I think Depp does as well as the committment it will take to make it really something new and special
