Werewolf: Two-way tie between An American Werewolf in London and The Howling. Honorable mention to A Company of Wolves.
Space creature: Too many good ones to choose from. Faves include ALIEN, ALIENS, The Thing (both the original and the remake), "Geordie Verrill's Last Repose" from Creepshow, and They Live.
Supernatural: The Shining, The Dead Zone, and Storm of the Century.
Slasher: Halloween.
Ghost: The Haunting (the original) and High Plains Drifter.

There is a horror movie that has no monsters in it other than Robert Mitchum. It is tremendously scary. Black and White. 1955. Mitchum, Shelley Winters and Lillian Gish. Director: Charles Laughton
Well for the most part they're boring I prefer horror with a little humor to it. Chucky & Freddy had the most wicked sense of humors.
