wow I've seen a lot of movies this year...I don't know what I would say is the best though. Some of them were good, some were just okay but I can't right now think of one that makes me think "that was the best one"

Just saw Food, Inc. this past week, and it is definitely my #1.

Now I normally wouldn't put a documentary film up as my favorite movie of the year, but this is one of those movies that just got me to think differently and even change some of my personal habits...which is pretty impressive for just a movie!

It was released in the US, in wide release, in late January of this year - 2009. I saw it in February 2009. So it was this year.

Yes, perhaps it becomes tricky talking about "this year's movie's" when a movie such as Slumdog Millionaire has already won 8 Academy Awards and I with my short attention span have already moved on to the summer season and beyond.

Mooseketeer was correct: The Reader was also 2009, it was released on January 2009 and it too was an Oscar winner.
I would probably choose The Reader as my favorite movie (so far) of 2009.

Well I mainly watch comedies and action, so I'm gonna go with The Hangover.

There's 2 movies that I enjoyed equally even though they couldn't have been more different

Up and Hangover - two masterpieces

Yes, but it was made and produced in 2008-went to the Oscars in the year 2009 for the films of 2008.

Slumdog Millionaire (2008)
