Default D.A.R.Y.L. (1985) - interesting thing about the cars

In the 1985 movie, D.A.R.Y.L, (about the little boy that is a robot), the early part of the movie features NEW 1985 General Motors cars (shown most were a new 1985 Chevy Celebrity wagon, 1985 Chevy Chevette, 1985 Chevy Caprice and a 1985 Buick Century), which would make one think GM supplied the cars, but 1/2 way through and through the rest of the movie (on the "chase scenes"), ALL of the new cars featured were brand new Fords... it started showing new Ford Thunderbirds, Tempos, Crown Victorias, Mustangs and those mid-size LTDs.

Some of the new cars in the chase scenes were damaged... I wonder if it was where GM didnt want their cars crashed, or what?

Normally a movie sticks with a certain car company that supplies the cars (at least they did back then), but this was odd to see the change.

*this may be a question more for the automotive forum... if so, please move it.

1badgmc is on a distinguished road
It's been a while since I've seen it, but I never really noticed that. I always remember the old Ford pickup and the Fairmount or whatever it was he was driving.

Check the credits and see if there's a "thanks to" in there for vehicles. If not, then maybe it was just random and they picked whatever.
