That's what they're counting on so you send in $$$$$. I feel sorry for the animals, too (or kids, or vets, or whoever) but when I can tell it's an obvious attempt to pull on my heartstrings, it kinda lessens the effect.
It particulary affects me because I used to work in an animal shelter doing animal rescue, and I saw first-hand the terrible things that some people do to animals.
These shelters and organizations do need support, and public contributions are the only funding that they receive.
Oh, made a BIG mistake, took the kids to see "Marley and Me" on Christmas, I thought it would be cute, about a dog...Great, they were all bawling, including me.
Note to self: Find out the ending of a movie before taking kids.
Whale Rider - I cannot make it through that movie with dry eyes - ever.
Dumbo - I'm a mom - 'nuff said.
Joy Luck Club - basically, any film that brings injustice to my attention gets me bawling from the burn I feel inside. I don't think anything moves me more emotionally than injustice.

It's for a good cause...we just rescued a Manx kitten, not even weaned yet; we feed hed with an eyedropper and she "suckles" on our arms...digging in her claws like with mom...who she apparently was seperated from.
"Taking Chance" was an HBO movie ... based on a true story. Lance Corporal Chance Phelps was killed April 9, 2004 in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Kevin Bacon plays Lieutenant Colonel Michael Strobl who requests that he be assigned to escort the remains home to Dubois, Wyoming.
A Lieutenant Colonel doesn't normally handle this type of duty. The movie follows the arrival of the remains of Lance Corporal Phelps and follows his final journey home. Every step along the way Lt Col Strobl witnesses a spontaneous outpouring of support and respect for the fallen Marine.
Taking Chance" was a 2009 Sundance Film Festival Official Selection in the U.S. Dramatic Competition. Strobl recently retired after 24 years of duty.
