Default Movies now and then...

I was recently thinking - how do movies made in the past 10 years compare to say the 90's, 80's etc? Mainly in terms of quality.

One thing I noticed is that a lot of movies that are produced to turn a profit, which is probably why there are a lot more sequals and movies using popular themes from the past. Examples would be Spiderman, Transformers, X-Men, harry potter etc... I like a lot of these movies movies though so in some ways the Blockbuster movies have improved over ones made in the past.

Also it looks like movies are much more violent then they used to be. I think inglorious bastards would have been much more controversial if it had been made 20 years ago. Especially with movies like Saw and Hostel these would be nc-17 probably the must be the goriest movies of all times.

Overall I think the movie quality has been pretty good recently. Movies like Memento, Dark Night, Up, Lord of the Rings, the departed, Donnie Darko to name a few.
