Default I haven't seen a movie since December of 2006--any recommendations?

Ok, that's a slight exaggeration...I've seen a few but probably no more than two or three. My daughter was born in December of '06 so my wife & I haven't had much time to hit the movies. We recently re-started our Netflix membership though and I'm hoping to get some recommendations for good movies we've missed over the last few years.

I like quirky/off beat/independent type stuff, but not too weird. For example, we just saw The Wrestler this weekend and liked it. I'm fine with big budget Hollywood films provided they are well done. Not fans of horror or sci-fi...comedies, dramas, and documentaries work for us.

Thanks in advance!

I could go on forever, but I won't. Off the top of my head, some recent faves:

I like documentaries a lot: The King of Kong, Helvetica, Air Guitar Nation, Waltz with Bashir, Young at Heart

For dramas, the ones that really stick out are--Lars and the Real Girl, Once

I recommend Clint Eastwood's last movie Gran Torino. It's an intelligent well written movie for adults.

You said that you haven't seen anything after 2006 so I assume you alreday saw The Gingerdead Man (2005) which came out in 2005.

You might enjoy the two sequels to this fine classic: Gingerdead Man 2: Passion of the Crust (2008) & Gingerdead Man 3: Saturday Night Cleaver (2009)

I second this opinion. "Gran Torino" is a great movie.

If you like something light but entertaining go for "Mamma Mia".

I also enjoyed "Little Miss Sunshine". Tragic and at times funny.

Our last child was born in 2007 so we too have been not able to go often to the movies. I simpatize with you completely

Check out "The Hangover".
It's a really funny mainstream movie.

That movie was terrible. It was predictable with bad to mediocre acting. I kept waiting the entire movie for something worthwhile to happen and it never did.

Gran Torino gets my vote for most overrated movie of the decade.

And I would second that, not sure why so many people liked that movie. The acting, from everyone involved, was some of the worst acting I've seen in awhile. I was really disappointed w/Eastwood's performance.

I thought Pineapple Express was hilarious.
