Meh. I like it, but not when they go out of their way to send a hidden message (easter egg).
I like it when they remain consistant, nobody wearing a watch in roman times, that kind of thing. Also, little things like making sure it is not SUNNY when filming a rain scene from inside a car. Seeing people walking around w/o umbrellas through the rain-blurred windows is funny.
The extra bits are great, but not if they ARE the message of the film itself.
Reading through the threads I notice that people's opinion differ greatly when it come to movies.
The same movie is great for some and terrible for others.
So I wonder: What make you like a movie? What criteria do you use to judge it?
In my case it has to be the combination of a few factors:
- good and well developed plot, possibly not predictable.
- intriguing, it has to grab my interest and stimulate my mind.
- good acting. I am not interested in famous actors only, many times unknown people can surprise me.
- A good photography and a good soundtrack are pluses of course and sometimes they can help a movie tremendously.
- it has to surprise me in a way or another.
The fact that a movie is uncomfortable or shows me things that I would prefer to ignore does not necessarily make it a bad movie. I do not like violence for violence's sake and I hate gore, but if there are a couple of violent scenes necessary for the final result of the movie so be it.
So what about you?
Your points kind of eliminate Hollywood movies. Most rely on predictable plots, violence, stereotypes, and bland acting. No surprises, nothing to stimulate the mind. Hollywood keeps traveling the well worn circular path, but Americans love those movies.
Vulgarity is fine, so long as it is not the mainstay of the conversation.
The thing that makes Vulgarity stand out is when it is NOT used all the time by everybody. When everyone is talking like a rapper in a gangsta vid, it loses its punch and becomes rather trite and boring.
I like realistic movies. Even if the story is not real, it should give the perception that it could be real. I have a strong dislike for most hollywood hyped "roller coaster" type movies.
Authenticity,Faithful to its source,Well crafted and not afraid to make a sublte point I feel that a good movie is one that can tell a good , compelling story in an interesting and original way.
