I'm so tired of the series now. I was a big fan, up until Saw 4.
But I cant blame them for rating it like that, some people get off from watching torture.

Do not misunderstand me: I don't want movies which contain a fair amount of sex scenes being automatically sent to porn movie theaters. But the fact that such a presposterous, hystrionic movie like any one of the Saw saga could be given such a rating is, well... I don't get it.
Um...where have you been since movies started to be rated? A rating of X does not pertain only to porn!

well, actually in Spain the only other non-porn movie that has been rated X in a lot of time was Baise-Moi which included some pornographic scenes. And the rating was changed shortly afterwards.

It is shocking what is acceptable now. Why would a reasonable person want this manure in their consciousness?
My 8th grade son just told me he heard a teacher discussing this movie with another student.
He is a minority with his pals in that I screen his activities and what he puts in his brilliant head.
When did our taste in entertainment include seeing mans inhumanity to man in the form of torture, severe distress and unbearable suffering as worthy of our applause and dollars?>?

Um... I'm willing to bet good money there's some things you watch that I wouldn't want to, but that doesn't mean I don't think they shouldn't be made/ shown. It's a personal taste issue. May not be your taste, but thank gawd we all don't think alike. How utterly boring that would be.

And since some people seem to have missed the memo, from day one, they intended Saw to be a 6 part series. Their intentions have been filled.

Rated X? Interesting, but since ratings don't mean anything to me.... I mean, If I truly took into consideration what a group of people rated a movie, I'd have missed out on some truly GREAT films that have been made.

For an eye opener, Americans should watch the documentary "This Film Is Not Yet Rated". And I say "Americans" because I don't believe the MPAA has a say as to the rating of a movie outside America, so it wouldn't apply to countries outside of the US.

100% agreed. Just for the record: The rating is "important" in this case because it keeps the movie from being shown other than in the less-than-a-dozen porn movie theaters across Spain.

I don't really like the Saw movies, with the possible exception of the first one. However, my disgust or my not liking something wouldn't make me understand effective censorship (most people won't be able to go see it if the rating's not changed) of any work of fiction. The reason was said to be that "it glorifies violence"... So? There are plenty of movies which treat violence in a distasteful way and which indulge in it. It's even virtually prerequisite for some genres... There's some unofficial speculation that the movie has been kept away from standard movie theaters just to help Spanish movies, premiered the same week Saw VI was supposed to come out (Disney has finally decided to pull out and not release it, at least until the rating is changed -if it ever is-), make better box office numbers, which makes it even more pathetic by the way.

I can tell you something: I've surely seen far worse in terms of shock than some laughable gorey horror thing. As I said somewhere else, Irreversible is probably the most disturbing movie I've ever seen. (spoilers ahead, I guess) It includes a 9-minute long single-shot rape scene and a horrifying murder scene where someone is beaten to death (this isn't really spoiling anything, though: the movie is in-famous for those two scenes). Both are of course fully fictional. It was, fortunately, never rated X or banned around here. If I don't like what I see, I can always abandon the theater. I usually check some reviews first, so I have a remote idea whether I will find the movie acceptable and endurable or not.

I'm not American but I'll check the documentary anyway. Thanks for the recommendation.

This is the thing I do not understand. How is a b00bie more threatening than a disembowlment?

You start looking at our rating system and you begin to realize a few things. Violence is glorified and protected, but sex if forbidden. While I do NOT want a kid seeing a porn flik, I can also remember my first guest downstairs came SIGNIFICANTLY before I was 18.

In addition, things such as simple nude scenes (breasts flashing across a screen) to be classified in almost the same vein as a viceral decapitation just makes no SENSE! I would rather have my son want more sex than want to chop someone's head off, that is for sure! And if the WHOLE reason for this malarky is to "protect our children", it is again, bupkis.

I thik sex, in general, is overly stigmatized and violence too widely accepted. I think they need to refine our ratings system base on its component parts. I know it will make things complicated, but have a set of cutoff ages (12, 16, 18) and have ratings for sex, language and violence (or whatever other thing). You give the cuttoff ages for each, and base the general rating on ALL of them. You then advertise with the general rating, but provide the specific ones.

So if Mom feels all right sending you out to see a flik that is 18 on Violence and Language, but a 16 on sex, so be it.... It would at least give us a better idea of what ingredients are in what we are consuming!!!!

I thought the first Saw was pretty good, but after that, (I only saw 1, and (under protest) 2) it just seemed like one big long gorefest.
I for one do not understand why people pay good money to watch other people being tortured...is there some thrill I'm missing here??
I can understand people watching porn, but not this s***...

Why would anyone sit thru "Jaws"?!? Especially knowing that that can really happen/ has really happened to people!

Ninjahedge, the documentary I mentioned address' all that, but it'll make ya mad and leave you saying 'WTF'. It's truly baffeling. For instance, the MPAA (which is made up of a (literally) secret group of people; these secret people judge what you should watch and not watch, btw) see noting wrong with a film depicting a man 'getting off', if you will. But if it's a woman, they rate the movie an X and it's distribution is then limited. Sending a message that it's not alright for a woman to enjoy sex. I

It's easier to learn the inner workings of the Free Masons than it is to see who's on the MPAA's payroll.

LOL... wow... what did this potential gorefest thread turn into?!?!

Might I add... I'd think it'd be funny for some poor bloke to stumble into an X rated theatre in Spain, hoping to get his jolly's off on some film only to be surprised when "Saw" starts to play!
