I have only seen him in two or three movies, including "The Break Up" and I found him rather vulgar and gross. Now I am not quite sure whether that was the role he was playing or just his personality coming through.
The first movie I ever saw him in was the Psycho remake, and I thought he was incredible in that. I've since seen him in other serious roles; Return to Paradise, Clay Pigeons (sorta serious), The Cell...
I also think he's naturally hysterically funny in other roles.
My question is, it seems like he's been always schlumped into the same comedic role over and over, and I'm just wondering if other people consider him a very talented, overall, dramatic as well as comedic, actor.
When he played in "Domestic Disturbance", I will personally say it was different seeing him in a menacing role.
I thought he was very good in "Into the Wild". It wasn't a big part, but I thought he did a believable job.
Oh yeah, I forgot he was in that. Yeah, that was a good one.

I didn't even know he was in that; I didn't see it. Yeah, that's why I wish he would do something more serious soon. I wonder if he even gets offered those roles anymore.

Is he any good?
By the way, if some of you haven't seen it, he played a REALLY good a**hole in "Made." He'll either drive you nuts or crack you up... And if you have the DVD, the bloopers are some of the funniest I've ever seen.
I think he has been very funny in comedic roles and had never really thought about the question...until I saw him in one starring role that changed my mind.
Wouldn't you know I can't remember the name......not a comedy: but in it he was a single dad, attempting to carry on his life while caring for his young son. Then after years away, the mom shows up, wanting to correct past errors. He did not allow her in and instead found a new love that he and his son adored. It was very sweet and tender and he was awesome in it.
BTW: comedy is supposed to be much harder to pull off than serious roles, so if he is good at comedy, then........

You must be thinking of "A Cool, Dry Place." I only saw the ending of it on TV one day.
I agree about comedy being more difficult. People don't give it enough respect.
