some of the best movies around are ''too graphic'' whic make it more realistic than some harry potter movie ( no offense to all the harry potter fans)
like gladiator, hotel of rwanda, and etc
Precious was based on a true story and that was what REALLY happend
not some fairy tale i know but realistic.....and sad
I love this film. Not because I was "entertained" by it, but for its very real and honest portrayal of a life in crisis.
A good filmmaker will portray a situation in the most honest way possible and it's their job to leave you impacted by what you've just seen. Sure you can be a "feel-good" filmmaker and send your audience out of the theatre with a light heart, but what happens is that film does not become part of your soul. A year from now, ten years from now - you won't remember it. Most films today are too formulaic and it's hard to discern one from the other.
As for the book, I've read the book and it was far more brutal and raw than the movie portrayed. There is a certain amount of poetic license that goes on with filmmakers of this caliber of material in order to make the film a little more bearable to watch.
If you want to be impacted by a film, you want to know the harsh realities that so many of our "precious" children face then see this film. Wether you leave loving the film or leave hating it - there is no doubt that it will have a profound effect on you.
Precious movie storyline is more than enough to take your breath away, it’s got some magnetic force that captivates you with immediate effect. If I was asked to rate this movie, I would have given 10 out of 10 to this movie.
I don't know how anyone expects these problems to be fixed if everyone doesn't even want to know about them. "oh its just too horrible, I don't want to know" I'm pretty sure its plenty more horrible for the kids involved.
I just finished reading the book. It was a very sad, but real story. I was a little upset about the ending of the book though. It just kind of ended with her teenage years. I would have liked to hear about the the rest of her life. Maybe that will be another book. But I am looking forward to seeing the movie.
I thought it was disturbing, but at the same time, amazing. Precious' perseverence through all the terrible things she had to go through was uplifting to me. Imagine how hard it is to hear that you're fat and stupid...yet still get the courage to try to learn and better yourself so you can give your children a happier life. And imagine doing that as a teenager! It really makes you think about the welfare system, about how many people must struggle every day for an education, and about how lazy many of us become when we have it handed to us so easily. I'd give 10 out of 10 too.
