Looking for an older movie about betrayal, need help? (actors, Terminator, names)

Hi, I need help in finding an older movie made in the late 70's or early 80's its about frienship betrayal> It is about 2 friends in ney york and one is affilited with the mob and the other is a retired Hashish importer. The movie goes like this the friend is always asking the other guy to get back into bussiness but he doesnt want to, so he stages a ploy that the mafia kidnaps him and will kill him if his friend does'nt start to import hashish from afganistan again. and there are twists and turns, its a great movie but I saw it once 25 years ago and cant remember the title or actors names, if anyone knows the name I would appreciate the help.
