Zhanna Prokhorenko, a Russian actress from the 50's and 60's. I just watched Ballad of a Soldier and wow, I think she's the most beautiful woman I've ever seen on film.

Love the look of the ladies in the old days. So curvy, so real. Today Hollywood's hotties are just boring. Stick ladies with no curves and chiseled cheek bones. Gross.

Here's "someone's" list of Black and White classic movies; I would at least add...YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU to the list. Along with LIFEBOAT, THE SNAKE PIT, FAILSAFE and other classics.
Approved List of Classic Black and White Film

And I agree, the actors/actresses had a different "aire and elegance" about them which had NOTHING to do with the film and/or filming techniques...IMHO.

I have to agree with you. She was a goddess!

Yes, they were more beautiful then. More beautiful features.
More feminine, more graceful.
Spoke better. More articulate. Even Marilyn Monroe the supposed dumb blonde was very articulate and very witty!

The casting crew then knew beauty. Now they don't. Now they go for loud, dumb, crude, or eccentric.

The men were also better looking in the same respect:

THEN vs NOW:
Gary Cooper vs Brad Pitt
Montgomery Clift vs Charlie Sheen
Tyrone Powers vs George Clooney
John Lund vs Ben Affleck

Need I say more...

Do you know who was the Russian actress that starred in the Soviet version of War and Peace? The film is on Youtube.

She was so stunning!

I have to disagree! They were definitely prettier. I can't think of a single well-known actress today that is as pretty as:

Ava Gardner
Elizabeth Taylor (back then, not today)
Marilyn Monroe
Veronica Lake
Vivien Leigh
Grace Kelly

Kim Basinger was the last beautiful Hollywood actress. She is comparable in terms of looks. The ones before her time were Julie Christie and Racquel Welch. But a 20-something year old actress of today? Can you think of one that is comparably beautiful to my list above?
