Unfortunately, computer programs at this point can't handle "context" - just the presence or absence of words that have been "tagged."
It's a shame that certain words, that are quite acceptable in one culture on in one context are not acceptable in other cultures or contexts. But that's the way it is. And in our "offensensitivity," we try to be "politically correct" and avoid using those terms. On some fora I belong to, you can't even use the word for chopped, mixed fruit - fruit c*o*c*k*t*a*i*l!! Can't use the word for a male peafowl. Can't use the proper word for a female canine. On some fora, you cant even use the proper word for a spiral wood fastener!
Cheerio!

~*~ The PC [political correctness] movement exists not in order to improve the well-being of those whose oppression it purports to combat. Rather, its purpose is to wrap its proponents in a kind of verbal comfort-blanket. Beneath its complacent cosiness and nauseating sanctimony, the intrepid shock-troops of 'populist authoritarianism' pretend that suppressing the language of prejudice is the same as eliminating prejudice itself. Smug and self-satisfied, having assuaged whatever guilt they may have felt through their attacks on the 'non-PC', they ignore the real inequalities, ignominies and powerlessness of those whom they pretend to champion. They are instead complacently content at their 'victory' in contorting the language of 'acceptable' discourse in the classroom, in the textbook and in the mass media. ~*~

Good choices. Personally, I would add Morgan Freeman, Sam Elliott, and Tom Selleck to that list, as well.

I love Joe Don Baker...He's been very much underrated, but he is a good actor. He played in the original "Walking Tall" movie (just the first one) back in 1973. He mostly played cops and some bad guys too (such as "Charley Varrick" where he plays a hitman named Molly).
I just love the way he looks, acts, and he's just a regular guy from Texas (love them Texas boys, huh?). He's the kind that I dream about meeting someday. I guess I have to get back to Texas. Hahaha!! Just kidding....

the greatest actor/actress of all time could also depend on your generation.
Some of the names already mentioned certainly are terrific.
To those who mentioned Cary Grant...yes, a remarkable talent that is very rare. His films are always refreshing to watch, regardless of age.
Here are some of mine:
James Cagney - he played hoodlums, sea captains, and danced in a musical.
Rod Steiger - he could do any role; serial killer, small town sheriff, looney doctor with absurd traits. Also played in german films with german dialogue.
Peter Lorre - a genuine talent who appeared so natural as a weirdo.
I'm enjoying reading the names submitted by others. Keep 'em coming!

The first person that cam to mind was Johnny Depp. I'm sorry, but this dude can ACT! Anyone that can go from "Cry Baby" to "Edward Scissorhands" to "Chocolate" to "Pirates of the Carribean" to "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (to name a few) and be AMAZING in them all (my opinion) has to have quite a bit of talent.
