Seems this trend is not winding down, sadly. It's very annoying and childish. I notice it's still pretty big in the rust belt but out west seems to have calmed a little. What do some of you think? Like it? Hate it? Will it ever die? I love sitting in my house enjoying a quiet evening until my windows start rattling like a sherman tank is coming at me. It's nerve racking.

I actually had a system like that in my Camaro. The sound was awesome sitting inside of it, but, I agree, annoying if you're on the outside. Not sure if it's a phase thing, but people like their 'sound' equipment and their music. I almost got a ticket once because of how loud it was, and my folks new I was coming a mile away. I can only imagine how irritating I was to those around me. Still...I miss my Camaro with the hip sound system...

It's a juvenile plea for attention, usually displayed by low-income, low-bred young men who think that deafening everyone within earshot is a good way to impress young women. Often, these young men have low intelligence, little to no education, and something to compensate for, if you know what I mean.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Sad excuse for music. More like tribal chanting and drumming.

Funny, I thought it DID die (to some extent). Back in the 90's the thundering vehicles were all over the place where I live. It is now a pretty rare occurrence. And I don't miss it.

My musical tendencies lean towards defined bass and percussion due to some hearing issues.

...and, yes, I've been told my hearing issues were caused by this defined bass and percussion...

The price I pay for my love of music.

I pretty much agree with you; however I also blame the speaker manufacturers. When I was younger high end stereo speakers were not so "bass orientated". When I went to replace my home speakers I had to listen to over 30 plus pairs/brands because they ALL emphasized the low notes too much...sacrificing the midrange and treble frequencies, which really make the nuances of the music.

IMHO...B&W speakers succeed at reproducing all frequencies of music....any cheap speaker can thump! Also many car stereos are turned up so loud that the distortion is just horrendous.....unthinkable in my day, as we went for clarity and faithful reproduction of musical notes.

Wow, such judgment.

There's nothing I love more than lying down, full body, on a wooden floor, right next to speakers that are cranking out a great song with a wonderful bass and drums to it. Or standing next to the speakers, hands on the speakers, feeling it through my whole body, especially my ribcage, letting my bones and my skull rattle to the beauty of the music...

And no my hearing loss was not caused by doing this.

my cousins like to listen to all their rap music blaring
I listen to a mainly rock and blues,so I guess when it's recorded either a vocal or guitar is recorded "more up front" (?) and so playing it loud make me hear one thing more than the other. I like playing my music lower and with less bass. it seems to let me hear the vocal and instruments in a more fluid harmony...idk this is hard for me to explain.
