For about 6 years, there was a great but short fad of Historical Story Songs on the Top 40...many of the following were in the Top 10, some were Number 1 hits....all were country-ish or western-ish, and almost all told stories of the pioneer/western spirit in the 1800's, the taming of American, the cowboys, the expansive untamed west, gold rushes, booms, busts, killing, lynching, fighing, feuding, and ropin and ridin'....

Enjoy...and I think these were just an outgrowth of the huge interest in wild west tv shows and movies in the 50's....wish we still had that awe of cowboys, pioneers, and such...we need that again!

This western story song is prob the fav of most of the readers of this post....how could it not? And wow, what a chorus....can imagine hearing this or singing this at a campfire in some secluded mountain hideaway!
