Done by the Davis Sister's, with the strangest studio echo ever.....and this is easily contention for the first rockabilly song, as well as the first rock song on the country side...this sure isn't typical country..not sure WHAT to call this...One of the sisters died in a car crash the next year, and the existing sister became the famous Skeeter Davis..

She later had her own hit with this in 1962..and most of you have prob heard it..reached number #2 on both country and top 40..and she sounds like a mournful teen, but she was already 34 here, far from sweet 16 for sure! The strange thing is, she has the voice of a 15 year old kid, and most teens thought it was a fellow teen going through typical teen angst..not the "End of the World"...not realizing it was a 34 year old almost middle aged woman..

she later got "weird" and married a guy 25 years younger than herself..Here she is singing with him and his band, the new rhythm and blues quartet, in the late 80's...you have to say shes a wee bit spirited to marry a guy 25 years her junior..good for her!....she passed away a few years ago..
