I think we all would include the late Jeff Buckley's incredible interpretation of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah"....7 minutes spent mining the depths of the human spirit..and deciding it was "good" after all......I cannot even begin to describe the power of this song..

Early Rod Stewart found him far more in singer-songwriter mode..actually, "Gasoline Alley" is one of the great and first singer-songwriter albums, full of songs of unrequited love and such....but Stewarts most powerful ballad would be Tim Hardin's "Reason to Believe".....the songs theme is that love is doomed to ultimately let us all down in one way or another, but that we must still "Believe", and make that effort regardless..we cannot ever touch that holy grail that love and romance quest for, but we must still find a "reason to believe"...Stewart sings it here with the conviction of a man singing the last song of his life, and pouring all he has left into the same..

Anything off, Use Your Illusion I and II was very epic. These were long songs that were deep and not easy by any stretch of the imagination to write and perform. They still stand out even today! Here is some other favs.
