I'm getting tired of all the hater threads in the music forum. How anyone can add this song to those threads IS BEYOND ME??? Peace off everyone!!! Saucy
On a river of sound
Thru the mirror go round, round
I thought I could feel (feel, feel, feel)
Music touching my soul, something warm, sudden cold
The spirit dance was unfolding...
Instant Karma's gonna get you,
Gonna knock you off your feet,
Better recognize your brothers,
Ev'ryone you meet,
Why in the world are we here,
Surely not to live in pain and fear,
Why on earth are you there,
When you're ev'rywhere,
Come and get your share.
The first ones entering my mind were more touching than uplifting. I might do those later though, but here's some that are essentially uplifting to one degree or other.
A friend of my Mom had it sung at his wedding. Glenn Miller is the origin of the song, but she really made it hers. In fact I think she even feels that to a great extent as she castigated Beyonce, I think it was, for not doing "her song 'At Last'" right. She can get feisty at times, but still an amazing voice.
Here's some other songs that I think are moving or inspiring to me in a non-depressing way.
I like the 8 miles high pick....prob the only song to make the top 10 with backwards guitar...I think that predates Sargent pepper, but I could be wrong....then again, didnt lennon do that on revolver? Pretty obvious that David Crosby was behind this one(and dropping/smoking a lot)...
Edmund Fitz? Yep, great story song, and indeed, has a strange sea shanty uplift to the song...and actually great guitarwork, which makes the song...I like the Harry Reasoner news clip before the song...
And "The End"?....wow, what a song, as well as the other Doors epic long ones, per "When the Music's over, Riders, and LA woman"....
This one is probably the most "in the clouds" Zepp song...with plant and Sandy Denny(great female folk singer from fairport convention) just pushing each other over the edge mutually..the acoustic mandolins strumming....the combination of both vocals is actually scary...add the beowulf lyrics of olde england, and you have something pretty uplifting here...
The "Bring it back, Bring it back", refrain in the end is incredible..
