COOL has it right, Rich was in a league of his own, he is effortless in his playing yet he could do a single stroke roll at 15 strokes a second, with power!

I think the problem I find when reading these type of posts is there are fans and musicians giving their opinions.

Fans like drummers like Bonham etc, who put on a great show with big flailing drum strokes and high energy. Some of the drummers mentioned are good if not great but IMHO, the list such as AXLE gave would not be in my top 50, with the exception of Mitch Mitchell. The Godsmack drummer is good, same with Tools but I have seen hundreds just like them. Fan drummers rely on triplets because they sound good yet relatively easy to do, especially if you play them a lot.

Gavin is in a whole different league, that guy is amazing. I love lots of modern drummers yet most of them are in the progressive, jazz and groove genres.

Here is one I like.

Love this Godsmack drum solo. Note the Rush, Aerosmith, Zeppelin tribute in the last two minutes.

I read a interview with Sully and expert drumming rates high on his list of priorities and is very important! They are noted for it. I guess Dana liked what he heard as well for his boys.
