Happy Holiday's everybody,

I thought it would be cool to see what everyone here would pick for the greatest album of the 70's. (any genre)

We'll go year by year starting here with 1971

please list your favorite 3 studio albums from 1971, and number them 1-3.

I'll score this like baseball scores the Cy-Young award winner, for the non-baseball fans among us, I'm going to award 10 points for every 1st place vote, 5 points for a 2nd place vote and 3 points for a 3rd place vote.

The Album that collects the most points will represent 1971 in the finals

I'm hoping for maximum participation in this.

If your like me and you can't remember what albums came out in 1971, or you weren't around yet, that's cool, click the link and pick your favorites from the list.

1971 in music - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There's a ton of great albums on that list, good luck picking 3 guys.

But My favorite band put out there best album that year, so that has to be my #1 pick

#1) the Who- Who's Next (simply one of the 5 best albums of all-time)

#2) Rod Stewart-Every Picture tells a story (my favorite Rod Stewart album, I used to own this album and I played it to death, just one classic song after another).

#3) Led Zeppelin-there untitled 4th album, hard to believe this would be 3rd on my list, a testament to how strong a year 1971 was, I could easily post 20 more.

in a couple of days I'll start the 1972 thread, if anyone wants to start one for another decade go for it.

I felt like I didn't know enough to start one for the 60's, I know enough of the late 60's, but the early 60's I would be absolutely clueless (worse then normal even).

Alice Cooper - Killer

Traffic - Low Spark of High Heeled Boys

Badfinger - Straight Up

George Harrison - Concert for Bangladesh

Quicksilver Messenger Service - Quicksilver

Uriah Heep - Look At Yourself

James Gang - Live

Genesis - Nursery Crimes

Curved Air - II

Atomic Rooster - In The Hearing of Atomic Rooster

The Doors - LA Woman

Frank Zappa - 200 Motels

Janis Joplin - Pearl

Mountain - Nantucket Sleighride

James Gang - Thirds

I would have posted almost any of those listed above, but they're done, so I'll go off in another direction because these deserve, at least in my opinion, a little consideration. Love the Cy Young voting style, aardvarks!

1. L.A. Woman - Doors (Jim's last album and he really went out in style)
2. Surf's Up - Beach Boys (not exactly surf music)
3. American Pie - Don McLean (love or hate the title track - you have to hear the rest to judge this one)

1971 could very well be the single most difficult year to make a top 3 list, one could easily expand this list to 10 or even 20 albums. I'll start with an easy one.

1) Marvin Gaye: What's Goin On could be the very finest music ever produced. This album ususally duels with Dylan's "Blood On the Tracks" in my mental #1 billing for the most perfect music out there.

2) Who's Next: This is almost a "Greatest Hits" album with completely original material.

That leaves a BUNCH of candidates to fill out #3.

Led Zeppelin untitled
Joni Mitchell Blue
Stevie Wonder Where I'm Coming From
John Lennon Imagine
Van Morrison Tupelo Honey
Sticky Fingers Rolling Stones
Summer Side of Life Gordon Lightfoot (not thought as highly by many, but one of my favorites)

In the end I'll go with my favorite live album of all time

#3) Live at Fillmore East: Allman Brothers
